Officials said the pieces are available under state contract, which allows the borough to select a vendor without a separate competitive bid and to use the vendor for installation.
Commissioner Stickel and others noted that keeping the design fully inclusive maintains eligibility for certain Green Acres grant categories previously known as Jake's Law and makes the project competitive for additional grants. Stickel estimated specialty pieces can be costly and said grant funding opportunities are being pursued; the council indicated it will continue applying for grants to add elements as funding becomes available.
Council members also noted the Monmouth County Park System's coordination and named local volunteers and recreation-committee members who contributed to the design.
