Commissioner says new treatment media failed, causing odors; authority working with vendor

Commissioner Dave Stickel told the council about persistent odor complaints tied to a new aeration/odor-control installation at the Two Rivers Water Reclamation facility that serves parts of the borough.
"Now that system hasn't worked right properly from day 1 when it was put in down there," Stickel said, describing how the authority has struggled to get the new media operating. He said cold weather contributed: "...that building was 10 degrees," and when temperatures fell the bacteria the system relies on died, triggering odors until the system was re-established.
He said the authority spent what he believes was about $3,000,000 on the installation and has replaced the media multiple times. "No lawsuits been filed yet, but they're working with that company," Stickel said. He added that residents near the plant have borne the brunt of the odor depending on wind direction.
Council members said they would continue to press the authority for fixes and for timely information to share with residents.
