Chief: motor-vehicle stops up 45%, DWI up 50%; police say they will summons private plow operators if observed

The Monmouth Beach chief of police told the council that year-to-date enforcement activity is up while the overall call volume remains roughly flat.
"So far, year to date, our calls for service are pretty much flat from last year, but our motor vehicle stops are up 45%... Our DWI's are up 50%... Our warrant arrests are up about 200%," the chief reported, summarizing enforcement trends.
During questions from the public, resident Richard thanked the department for code-red snow-removal notices and asked whether the police would summons a car impeding plowing and whether contractors hired by residents who dump snow back into the street would be summonsed. The chief replied, "If we catch them doing it, yes we do," and said the department had written more than 30 tickets this season for obstructing plows.
Council members and staff praised the coordinated response by DPW, the fire department and first-aid squad during the storm and acknowledged the strain on personnel and equipment. The council did not take further formal action on enforcement at the meeting.
