The official said if hazardous waste were not handled properly it "would quickly become a huge issue here in our community," citing potential harm to water and the natural environment.
The reopening restores a local hazardous-waste drop-off point with a larger footprint and longer weekly availability, officials said. No formal vote or ordinance was announced at the ceremony; staff and officials presented the completed facility and described operational changes.
The ceremony ended after officials highlighted the center's expanded capacity and service schedule.
