Council hears Natchitoches Economic Development Alliance presentation and introduces one-year MOU

Councilwoman at-large Smith Kirkendall read Ordinance 028 of 2025 introducing a proposed one-year memorandum of understanding between the city and the Natchitoches Economic Development Alliance to provide economic-development services. The ordinance describes services including website maintenance, acting as lead contact for proposals, site evaluation and business retention and expansion work.
Laura Lyles of the Natchitoches Area Chamber and the Natchitoches Economic Development Alliance presented highlights of the past year: the organization's official name change to Natchitoches Economic Development Alliance; launch of the GoNatchitoches website (gonatchitoches.com) and a video series; workforce initiatives and grant-funded training videos; a mobile workforce resource hub; and a the Work Natchitoches summit that connected local high-school students with employers.
The ordinance specifies a one-year term with payment of $45,000 for the fiscal year running June 2025 to May 2026 to support the Alliance's services. Lyles said she will not be present for the vote in two weeks but will arrange for a board member to attend. Council accepted the introduction; the ordinance was placed on the agenda for future action.
