Bedminster committee introduces two ordinances, appoints housing liaison and approves routine permits

The committee introduced an ordinance amending Chapter 2 (administration) to update municipal indemnification and defense language to align with state law (referenced as NJSA 48:14-155); a public hearing on that ordinance is scheduled for Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. The committee also introduced an ordinance authorizing a cap bank — a standard annual measure allowing the municipality to exceed appropriation limits if necessary — and scheduled it for the same Feb. 2 public hearing.
By resolution (20 26 0 3 1) the committee designated Miss Ray as the municipal housing liaison to meet updated NJAC 5:99 reporting requirements; township staff said this is a formalization of an existing practice ahead of required filings. The committee approved a separate resolution authorizing the chief financial officer to participate in the New Jersey asset and rebate management program to seek higher interest returns on township funds.
The committee approved meeting minutes, three social-event permits (American Cancer Society fundraiser and a Seton Hall Prep event at local country clubs) and an on-premise 50/50 raffle for a local memorial foundation. Subcommittee reports covered recreation events, ongoing community garden work, and DPW updates: snow removal, equipment repairs and a delivered shipment of mechanical equipment for the Miller Lane sewer project with a forthcoming groundbreaking event.
The committee also reviewed a recent JCP&L outage in the Hills Village North area; members said a manual switch could have restored power more quickly but crews were not aware of that option, and they reported the utility is replacing aging underground cable and retraining crews.
What happens next: both introduced ordinances will have public hearings on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.; staff will file required affordable-housing documentation ahead of upcoming court compliance deadlines.
