Ashland council approves updated park rules, special-events code and new stop sign

At its meeting, the Ashland City Council approved several ordinances updating park regulations and special-events requirements and amended the traffic code to add a stop sign at the intersection of Liberty and Allegiance.

City staff introduced Council Bill 2024-33, described as an update to Chapter 25 (parks and recreation, article 2) compiled from municipal research and park-board input as part of an intern project. "Everything you see before you is just additional language that he has compiled through research," staff said, summarizing the changes to permitting and special-event language.

On old business, the council adopted Ordinance 1489 to create a standalone Chapter 16 covering special events and parades, moving related rules out of the traffic code and establishing size-based event categories and permit requirements. Staff said the change clarifies which types of events need permits and includes suggested route lists for parades and 5K races.

The council also approved Ordinance 1490 to place additional stop signs at Liberty and Allegiance and passed Ordinance 1491, the second reading of additional park rules that expand the code language governing permitted uses of park facilities.

All three measures received affirmative voice votes from the members present; the clerk recorded Aye responses during roll call for participating aldermen. No dissenting votes were recorded on these items.

The meeting closed after routine reports and community announcements, including reminders about the upcoming fall festival and minor operational updates from city staff.
