Council introduces two short-term rental rezoning requests in Natchitoches

The Natchitoches City Council on Oct. 13 introduced two ordinances seeking special-exception zoning to operate short-term rentals.
Councilman Harrington presented Ordinance No. 34 (2025) to reclassify 720 Saint Maurice Lane from R-1 to R-1 special exception for the operation of a short-term rental. Planning staff reported no public opposition during the planning commission review and said no calls were received expressing concerns.
Councilman Dale Nielsen introduced Ordinance No. 35 (2025) for Lot 2B of Nollie Street townhomes (2014 Nollie Street) to be reclassified to permit one unit to operate as a short-term rental. Planning staff said one neighborhood resident raised a question about driveway turnaround issues but that the question did not relate directly to the rezoning application. The property owners are expected to attend the council's Oct. 27 meeting for additional comment.
Both items were introduced for further consideration and are scheduled to return for formal action at a future meeting; no final votes were taken Oct. 13.
