City proclaims NSU Football Day; Coach Blaine McCorkle asks for community support

The Natchitoches City Council read a proclamation recognizing Aug. 28, 2025 as NSU Football Day and invited the community to support Northwestern State University's football program.
Councilman PT read the proclamation noting NSU's role in local culture and community pride. Coach Blaine McCorkle accepted and thanked the council; he told members the program has endured "unprecedented" challenges in recent years but said recruiting progress gives the community reason for hope. He said the coaching staff's first recruiting class posted an average GPA of 3.3 and the second class a 3.4; he added that 82% of recent signees were from Louisiana.
"We want kids to be proud to be from Louisiana. Call Natchitoches home, call Northwestern State home," McCorkle said, and he urged residents to attend the upcoming home game and show support by wearing purple. The coach also asked the public to follow team social media for events such as the quarterback luncheon and game-night promotions.
The council posed for photos with the coach and encouraged turnout for the season-opening game Thursday night.
