Butler County designates official meeting posting locations to comply with HF 2490

The Butler County Board of Supervisors on June 30 adopted Resolution #39-2026 designating official physical posting locations for public meeting notices and tentative agendas to comply with House File 2490 and Iowa Code Chapter 21.
County Auditor Leslie Groen explained that HF 2490 amended Iowa Code section 21.4 and requires governmental bodies to annually designate a prominent, conspicuous, and publicly accessible place for posting meeting notices and tentative agendas that is visible at all times, and to post notices on the governmental body's primary internet site. The board designated the bulletin board in the courthouse first-floor hallway next to the Recorder’s Office and the main north-side doors of the courthouse as the official physical sites, and directed that notices be posted on the county’s primary website, www.butlercounty.iowa.gov.
The resolution reiterates that these designations do not replace the requirement to notify news media who have filed for notice and does not change the statutory 24-hour advance public-notice requirement in Iowa Code section 21.4.
Auditor Groen attested the resolution and the board approved the designation by the supervisors present. The designation will be reviewed and approved annually at the board's organizational meeting.
