Taylor's letter, read aloud to the commission, said the program will shift from installing eight outdoor food-pantry boxes to designing and constructing eight indoor multipurpose distribution cabinets, one for each Maryville community school. "This revised approach provides several important benefits," the letter said, noting indoor placement protects donated goods from weather, vandalism and spoilage and allows school staff to manage inventory and distribution. Staff and commissioners discussed liability and spoilage concerns and said the indoor design reduces those risks while preserving student learning opportunities. Staff told the commission the revised approach "remains within the originally approved budget" and will still serve as a hands-on workforce-development experience. Commissioners noted the change adds personal-hygiene and clothing distribution functions not covered by other social services.
The commission voted to accept the revised scope of Maryville's grant application and to increase the grant pool for 2027. Staff indicated the funding and project timeline remain as previously approved and no additional budget allocation was required.
Next steps: staff will document the approved scope change in grant files and coordinate with Maryville School Corporation on implementation timelines and any reporting requirements.
