Brimfield trustees approve 2025 budget, authorize Kelso House maintenance and police vehicle purchase

Brimfield Township Board of Trustees members voted at a regular meeting Feb. 13, 2025, at Brimfield Townhall to adopt the township’s 2025 annual budget, authorize maintenance work at the Kelso House historic property and approve several equipment and park-related expenditures.
The board adopted the 2025 budget as presented (Motion #2025-083). Trustee Mike Kostensky moved the budget and Trustee Sue Fields seconded; the motion passed with all trustees voting yea. The board also approved the 2025 inventory as presented by department heads (Motion #2025-080).
Trustees unanimously approved a purchase of two 2025 Ford Explorers from Park Ford for $95,884 as part of the annual police fleet rotation (Motion #2025-078). Trustee Nicholas Coia moved the purchase; Trustee Mike Kostensky seconded and the motion passed.
The board adopted Resolution No. 2025-079 authorizing the township to perform maintenance work — including grass cutting, snow plowing and salting — at property owned and maintained by the Brimfield Township Historical Society at 4158 State Route 43, commonly known as the Kelso House. The resolution cites Ohio Revised Code § 511.32 as authorizing the township to maintain grounds devoted to public uses for park purposes; it takes effect upon adoption or as allowed by law.
Other approvals included a purchase of new Brimfield Township signs from Graphic Detail not to exceed $24,845, to be paid from account 2194 Kent M&I (Motion #2025-081), and authorization to demolish two outbuildings and remove two scrap piles at McGuire Park not to exceed $12,500 (Motion #2025-084).
The board also set a priority registration schedule for athletic fields at Lions Community Park for the fall season beginning May 2025, with resident teams (defined in the motion as those with over 75% Brimfield residents) receiving priority; the motion sets specific submission windows for spring and fall rental requests (Motion #2025-085).
Zoning, roads, IT, cemetery and the fiscal office reported with no actions taken. The meeting was called to order by Trustee Mike Kostensky at 4:00 p.m. and was adjourned at 5:21 p.m. following a unanimous roll call vote to adjourn.
