Brimfield trustees approve Kent State communications contract, accept NOPEC grant resolution and several routine motions

At its Feb. 5 meeting the Brimfield Township Board of Trustees approved a $77,155 Kent State University communications contract, adopted a resolution to accept 2025 NOPEC Energized Community Grant funds, amended prior minutes to reflect corrected millage revenue figures, and passed a series of routine administrative motions including a variance fee waiver and highway mileage certification.
The Brimfield Township Board of Trustees on Feb. 5 approved a slate of routine measures, including a new communications contract with Kent State University and a resolution authorizing the township to accept 2025 Energized Community Grant funds through the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC).
Trustee Sue Fields moved to approve amended meeting minutes from Jan. 24, 2025 to correct millage revenue figures after a rounding adjustment by the Portage County Auditor’s Office; Trustee Nicholas Coia seconded. The board recorded the .950 mills revenue as $262,000 (revised from $261,674) and the 1.900 mills revenue as $546,000 (revised from $546,422). The motion passed with two yeas and one member absent.
On a separate item the board approved a 2025 Kent State University Communications contract in the amount of $77,155.00, to be paid biannually. Trustee Nicholas Coia moved approval and Trustee Sue Fields seconded; the motion passed by roll call with Trustee Mike Kostensky absent.
Trustee Sue Fields also moved to accept a resolution authorizing Brimfield Township to enter into a grant agreement with NOPEC to receive one or more 2025 Energized Community Grants. The resolution authorized the township’s fiscal officer to execute the grant agreement and declared the measure an emergency to take effect immediately. Trustee Nicholas Coia seconded and the board adopted the resolution.
Other actions approved without discussion included waiving a $250 variance application fee for 2369 Tallmadge Road, approving purchase orders and warrants, rescheduling the Feb. 19 regular meeting to Feb. 13 at 4:00 p.m., and approving the 2024 Certified Annual Township Highway Mileage Certification. Several agenda items for Fire, Parks, IT, Cemetery and the Fiscal Office were noted as "no action." The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. and adjourned at 8:41 a.m.
Trustee Sue Fields moved the final motion to adjourn; Trustee Nicholas Coia seconded. The roll call vote passed among those present.
