The Salem City Council unanimously adopted Bill No. 36‑80, an ordinance amending the City's annual budget beginning July 1, 2024, and appropriating funds, and approved Bill No. 36‑81 to allow subdivision of 803 East Center Street.
City Clerk Kohler read the caption for each ordinance aloud before the board took up both items. After the clerk read Bill No. 36‑80, Mayor called for discussion; none was offered. Alderman Whelan moved to approve the budget amendment and Alderman McKenzie seconded. The council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
For Bill No. 36‑81, Jared Brown presented the plat and said the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing July 1 and recommended approval. Brown described the request as a division of the eastern portion of a large lot to create a roughly 100‑foot parcel intended for single‑family development, and said minimum lot‑size standards were met. Alderman Dent moved to approve the ordinance, Alderman McKenzie seconded, and the measure passed unanimously.
Why it matters: the budget amendment adjusts FY25 appropriations and was described by staff as a routine year‑end adjustment; the subdivision clears the way for residential development at 803 East Center Street after Planning & Zoning's recommendation.
The council proceeded to bids and department reports after the votes. The ordinances were approved on voice vote with no recorded no or abstaining votes.
