Montague Committee approves festival act, HVAC and pole-barn contracts, selects QuickCopper and passes SALT resolution; lien redemption tabled
Summary
At its Sept. 10 meeting the Montague Township Committee approved multiple municipal contracts and bids (including a Fall Festival performance, HVAC maintenance and pole-barn construction), unanimously selected QuickCopper for phone/internet service, passed a SALT-resolution urging Congress to allow the cap to expire, and tabled a contested lien redemption.
Montague Township’s governing body approved several vendor contracts and capital bids at its Sept. 10 meeting while tabling a contested lien redemption and selecting a new internet provider.
The Committee awarded a two-hour performance by The Grand Falloons for the township Fall Festival on Oct. 26, 2024, at a cost of $625 to be paid from Clean Communities funds (Resolution 2024-087). It also approved a heating and air-conditioning maintenance agreement with C.R. Wolfe for $2,973 annually, an increase of $128 from last year (Resolution 2024-088).
Bids for construction and site work at the DPW site were approved. The Committee awarded Moynihan Companies $107,025 to construct a pole barn (Resolution 2024-090), C&V Paving Contractors $19,830 for interior asphalt paving (Resolution 2024-091), and Power with Prestige, Inc. $12,400 for electrical work (Resolution 2024-092). Municipal Clerk Dana Klinger stated the combined cost is approximately $700 under the project budget.
On municipal technology, the Committee voted unanimously to accept QuickCopper’s proposal for a new phone and internet system. QuickCopper’s one-time installation charge is $626.99 and the vendor’s quoted monthly rate was $617.88; QuickCopper’s two-year contract and lower long-term monthly pricing led the Committee to prefer it over other quotes (Network Technology Communications at $616.84/month and the township’s current Brightspeed service of about $1,000/month).
The Committee also approved a resolution urged by the New Jersey League of Municipalities urging Congress to allow the State-and-Local-Tax (SALT) cap deduction to expire; that resolution was moved by Mr. Krumpfer and seconded by Mr. Innella and passed unanimously (Resolution 2024-089).
A township-held lien redemption (Resolution 2024-085 regarding BL 10, LT 2) was tabled at the request of Attorney Rossmeissl because ownership of the lot is being contested; the Committee voted unanimously to defer action until the Sept. 24 meeting.
The meeting closed with routine reports from the Tax Collector and Clerk and an announcement of a Sept. 19 bid opening for Zitone Ballfield improvements funded by a $73,000 NJ Local Recreation Grant plus a $20,000 township match. The Committee adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
