Township planning staff told the board the application met the conditional‑use requirements for the General Commercial and Corridor Overlay districts and recommended conditional approval with the caveat that only dogs would be subject to county licenses under the township ordinance. The community planner said the planning commission discussed the ordinance wording at its June 24 meeting and recommended clarifying which animals require licenses.
At the public hearing, the applicant’s representative, Ellen Exley Dvorkin of Campus K9, said the business would like to offer on‑site licensing to make compliance easier. “We would love to be able to offer that service,” Exley Dvorkin said, adding the business intends to follow the licensing requirements and that cats generally do better at home but may be boarded on occasion.
A board member moved to approve the conditional use as recommended, with a condition that the conditional‑use requirements be recorded on the future land‑development plan and that license requirements be noted; the motion was seconded and passed. The board conducted a roll call; all members present voted in favor.
The board’s approval authorizes staff to include the conditions as notes on subsequent land‑development submissions. No appeal periods or final recording steps were announced at the meeting.
