Council approves street closures for fall events and appoints new library board member
Summary
Council approved multiple street closures for the Denton County Historical Society Oct. 4 event, the school kickoff parade Aug. 29, and a concert Sept. 13; the council also appointed Carolyn Christian to the Salem Public Library board and noted upcoming community events.
The Salem City Council approved several event street-closure requests and confirmed a library-board appointment.
An organizer introduced as Miss Woods asked the council to close a U-shaped route around the courthouse on Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a historical-society event; the council approved the closures and granted permission to use a city building as an indoor alternative if weather required it.
The council approved the school kickoff parade street closure for Aug. 29 (lineup 5:30 a.m., parade 5:45 a.m.) along a route from the Admin Building up 4th Street toward the high school. Michael Connors requested a street closure for a concert at Al Brown Field on Sept. 13 (9 a.m.–11 p.m.); the council approved that request as well.
Separately, council members voted to appoint Carolyn Christian to the Salem Public Library board. The chair and staff also reviewed upcoming community events and reminded residents that city offices will be closed Sept. 1 for Labor Day.
