Rhinelander — The Oneida County Forestry, Land & Recreation Committee on July 7 received operational updates from staff, approved LTE staffing levels for 2027 and reviewed financial and project reports.
Rady, a forestry department staff member, reported June stumpage receipts of $62,669.61, bringing year-to-date stumpage to $377,282.91; he said the department is hoping for more activity over the next couple of months. The committee also received an informational invoices-paid report showing May vouchers totaling $37,461.21, of which $17,954.81 were for grant-funded projects. Committee members had no concerns about the department’s May budget vs. actual report.
Forestry staff Nemec reported several operational items: the department submitted an application to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to include Kelly Fire Lane as a County Forest Road; the new dump truck (originally ordered through a 2024 CIP) has been received; the Recreogo online reservation and trail-pass system implemented this year is working well; the Girl Scout project at Townline Lake Park was scaled back (knapweed removed, pollinator garden not feasible due to volunteers relocating); and Nose Lake trailhead toilet building and parking lot expansion are moving forward, with a vault toilet ordered.
WDNR liaison Sydney Kottke told the committee that, with the new fiscal year, WDNR time standards reset and staff will be working on dozer projects, reconnaissance, timber sale establishment and preparing for a partnership meeting in September.
On staffing, Tischendorf said the department sought approval to carry forward existing LTE hours for 2027 — 1,200 hours for park maintenance and 500 hours for a ranger position. Briggs moved to approve the LTE staffing; Schultz seconded and the motion carried with the record stating “all aye.” Tischendorf and committee staff will incorporate those hours into the 2027 staffing plan and budget process.
The committee set its next meeting for August 4, 2026. No public comment was offered during the meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 8:37 a.m.
