Oneida County panel approves private access improvements for EN-269, declines purchase of two parcels

Nemec, a member of the county forestry staff, told the committee the EN-269 parcel is entirely surrounded by County forest and currently has an existing woods road. According to Nemec, the landowner (referred to in the record as Mr. Goretski) requested permission both to gravel and improve the existing road and to develop a second road to access the parcel’s western eight acres because a creek crosses the property. Committee members discussed possible wetland impacts and culvert placement before acting.
Committee member Sorgel moved to approve the proposed new access in addition to the existing access; Schultz seconded. The motion carried “all aye.” Nemec said he will prepare an access license agreement and draft a resolution for a future meeting to formalize the terms.
Separately, Nemec reported that a landowner had inquired about selling parcels EN-423 and EN-421. Nemec said EN-423 is approximately 40 acres and abuts county land on two sides, while EN-421 lacks current access. He told the committee that, based on the criteria outlined in the Oneida County 15-year plan, the parcels met some criteria for acquisition but would not deliver significant benefit to the County.
Chair Robert Almekinder moved not to proceed with purchasing EN-423 and EN-421; Briggs seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The committee did not adopt any purchase agreement and took no further acquisition action at the meeting.
Votes at a glance: motions to approve the access for EN-269 and to decline the EN-423/EN-421 purchase each passed with the record stating “all aye.” No roll-call votes or dissent were recorded.
The committee scheduled follow-up paperwork on the access license for a future meeting and listed the item among expected agenda items for the August 4 meeting.
