Montague Township approved a $10,000 design for a sprinkler system at the Community Center on Aug. 13 after officials said a fire watch would not meet state requirements.
Mayor Zitone said the State rejected the option of using a fire watch in place of sprinklers for banquet-type uses, prompting the need to redesign plans. The Committee voted to approve separate bid packages—one for general contracting and one for sprinkler work to be served by an underground tank—using Charles Shaffer & Associates and Harold E. Pellow & Associates to prepare the work. The motion carried with Mr. Innella, Mr. Krumpfer, Mr. LeDonne and Mr. Merusi voting yes and Mayor Zitone voting no.
Why it matters: The Community Center’s upgrade is a safety and code compliance matter; the redesign advances the project toward bidding and construction but will add design and contracting steps.
What’s next: Staff will proceed with the redesign and prepare bid packages; the committee discussed an underground tank option to serve the sprinkler system.
