Montague Township’s Committee approved a slate of routine resolutions at its Aug. 13 meeting, covering tax collection, municipal services and personnel.
Municipal Clerk Dana Klinger told the Committee "the tax sale is scheduled for September 26, 2024, with 55 properties currently listed prior to payoffs." The Committee approved Resolution 2024-075 authorizing the 2024 electronic tax sale. The Committee also approved Resolution 2024-076 to cancel certain taxes and Resolution 2024-079 to extend the grace period for the third-quarter tax payment.
The Committee approved Resolution 2024-077 authorizing endorsement of a Treatment Works Approval (TWA) request to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for Block 4, Lots 30, 30.03, 30.04, 30.06 and 30.07 (59 River Road) after municipal engineer review found no objections.
Personnel and settlements: the Committee approved Resolution 2024-083 appointing Kasie Johnson as Township Finance Clerk (effective July 1, 2024). In a related matter, the Committee approved Resolution 2024-084 approving a tentative settlement of tax appeals involving the Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary (Block 4, Lot 48 to remain taxable; Block 8, Lot 7 to remain exempt) and then approved Resolution 2024-082 authorizing the outside lien redemption required to effect the settlement.
Other routine approvals included Resolution 2024-080 renewing a three-year agreement with Sussex County for 911 intake and dispatch services pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:65-1 et seq.
Why it matters: The tax sale authorization, lien redemptions and the tax-appeal settlement affect municipal revenues and property-tax liabilities. The finance clerk appointment fills an administrative position that manages those processes.
What’s next: The tax sale will proceed as scheduled unless payoffs change the list; staff will handle lien redemptions and settlement paperwork in coordination with the township attorney.
