Plain Dealing council approves transfer of waste service to Waste Connections Bayou

The Plain Dealing Board of Aldermen on June 10 adopted Resolution No. 16 of 2025 authorizing Mayor James Cook to sign an assignment and acceptance agreement transferring local waste collection from Get Rid of It of Arkansas, Inc. to Waste Connections Bayou, Inc.
The move was presented to the board by Joshua Worn, site manager for Waste Connections, and Steven Townsley, sales manager. They told the board operations will remain the same for the remainder of the existing contract and that the transfer is a lateral assignment. The presenters stated the new contractor will take over beginning June 16, 2025.
Why it matters: the transfer changes the vendor providing curbside and related collection services to residents but, according to the presenters, does not alter daily operations or scheduled service under the current contract.
Council action: Alderman Jeff Benson moved to adopt the resolution and Alderman Shavonda Gay seconded the motion. The board recorded a unanimous vote in favor of the resolution.
What’s next: the resolution authorizes Mayor James Cook to execute the assignment; staff and the new site manager indicated operations will continue under the same terms for the contract’s remainder.
