Plaquemine board approves liquor permit, proclaims city a 'Purple Heart City' and clears invoices

At its Jan. 13 regular meeting, the Plaquemine Mayor and Board of Selectmen unanimously approved several routine and ceremonial items, including a retail liquor permit, a veterans proclamation and multiple vendor invoices.
The board approved a 2026 Class A retail liquor permit for Cabo’s Group, LLC (23466 Eden Street). Selectman Michael K. Carlin, Sr. moved to approve the permit and Selectman Brent Barbier seconded; the motion passed with six yeas and no nays.
The board also adopted a proclamation designating the City of Plaquemine as a Purple Heart City. Selectwoman Natasha S. Johnson moved for adoption, seconded by Selectman Thomas D. LeBlanc; the proclamation was adopted unanimously. The proclamation notes the Purple Heart as the nation’s oldest military decoration and expresses the city’s intent to honor combat-wounded veterans and encourage public recognition on Veterans Day and thereafter.
On a resolution declaring movable property surplus, the board declared a 2011 Ford F-250 (VIN 1FTBF2A61BEB17646) surplus with an appraised scrap value of $500 and authorized placement of the vehicle on the state online surplus auction. Selectman Brent Barbier moved and Selectman Thomas D. LeBlanc seconded the measure, which passed unanimously.
The board acknowledged and approved a set of vendor invoices and monthly payments, including: • Comeaux Brothers – Entry Park & Pavilion: $243,295.00 • Sage Construction – Nathan Georgetown Drainage: $37,064.77 • Salus Facilities, LLC – Insurance Assessment: $67,370.27 • Tullier Services, Inc. – Senator Gay/Commodore/Orange: $399,600.00
Selectman Brent Barbier moved to acknowledge monthly payments and approve the invoices; Selectman Thomas D. LeBlanc seconded. The motion was adopted unanimously.
Other routine acknowledgements approved by the board included the Police and Fire reports for December 2025, payroll vouchers for December 2025, and the minutes of the Dec. 9, 2025 public hearing and regular meeting. All motions recorded in the minutes carried by unanimous vote.
The meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
