Plaquemine board approves permits, funding‑support resolutions, fire‑truck LOI and contractor payments

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Plaquemine Mayor and Board of Selectmen approved alcohol permits for two Carville businesses, adopted resolutions supporting applications to two state funding programs, authorized a letter of intent to buy a fire truck and approved several contractor invoices totaling more than $567,452.
The Mayor and Board of Selectmen of the City of Plaquemine approved multiple administrative and funding actions at their Feb. 10, 2026 regular meeting.
The board approved 2025 and 2026 Class B and Class C alcohol beverage permits for Carville Family, LLC d/b/a Fast Shop Express (24445 Eden Street) and Carville Entertainment, LLC d/b/a Fast Stop Express (24447 Eden Street), listing new owners Rami Maree and Mahmoud Ziadeh. Selectman Brent Barbier moved the permit approvals and Selectwoman Wanda B. Jones seconded; the minutes record unanimous board approval on each permit.
The board also adopted two resolutions supporting preparation and submittal of grant applications: one for the Division of Administration Community Water Enrichment Fund and one for the Local Government Assistance Program (LGAP). Selectman Brent Barbier moved both resolutions; the motions passed unanimously.
On public‑safety capital, the board authorized Mayor John “JB” Barker to sign a letter of intent to purchase a fire truck for the Plaquemine Fire Department; that motion passed unanimously.
Finance staff presented monthly budget-to-actual updates and a slate of invoices for approval. The board acknowledged routine monthly payments and approved contractor invoices including Epic Paving, LLC (asphalt patches, $59,000.00); Grady Crawford Construction Co. (ARPA regional WWTP improvements, $77,065.20); and three invoices from Tullier’s Services, Inc. totaling $431,387.21 (North Plant decommissioning $199,068.70; North Plant force main $82,218.51; WWTR Improvements Contract 2 $150,100.00). The board approved those payments by motion and unanimous vote.
Other business: an ordinance to amend Chapter 2, Section 3 of the Plaquemine Code of Ordinances related to public record request fees was tabled until the Feb. 24 committee meeting; discussion of a camera at the Plaquemine Locks was tabled at the request of Selectman Brent Barbier. The minutes also record routine approvals: acknowledgment of Police and Fire reports for January 2026, acknowledgement of payroll vouchers for January 2026, approval of minutes from Jan. 13 and Jan. 27, 2026, and adjournment at 7:44 p.m.
Mayor Barker opened the meeting with several operational announcements including a smoke study scheduled Feb. 11–12, 2026, a move to 4‑10 workdays starting Feb. 18, and parades scheduled Feb. 14–15; offices will be closed Feb. 16–17 for the holidays.
