EMA director reports grants and seeks approval to buy drone and monitoring equipment

EMA director Terry updated the commissioners on funding the department has secured this year and asked for approval to spend grant money on a drone and monitoring equipment.
Terry listed the grants: $4,990.17 from the LEPC fund, a $19,272.27 EMPG salary-reimbursement payment already received, an unsigned $6,500 Office of Energy Development grant intended for a solar system on a mobile command trailer, a Duke Energy grant of about $1,000 for office monitors, and a $12,950 grant from the Greene County Foundation to buy a drone.
Terry said the drone will be compatible with equipment used by the sheriff's department and the county's fire resources, and will have infrared and cameras to assist with damage assessment, search-and-rescue operations and limited delivery capability for life vests or lights. "At this time, I'm asking the commissioners for their approval for us to purchase the drone and the accessories, for the amount of the grant for $12,950 and also approval to purchase the monitors and accessories from the new grant for 1000 dollars," Terry said.
Commissioners thanked Terry for pursuing grants, asked to be kept apprised via email updates, and moved to approve the purchases; the motion passed by voice vote.
The board directed Terry to continue updates to commissioners and to finalize any grant paperwork required before expenditures.
