Dunn County's Planning, Resources and Development Committee voted 4'to— on July 2 to convey a county-owned water parcel on Lake Monomen to the City of Menomonie for no purchase price, with the city responsible for a $30 recording fee.
Corporation counsel Barbara Fagan explained the parcel was taken in rem during foreclosure and described it as a water feature with islands and little development potential. "It doesn't put the parcel back on the tax roll, and it would be a conveyance for $0," counsel told the committee, adding that the county's assessment and tax history made recovering delinquent taxes impractical.
The county reported the parcel had delinquent taxes dating back to 2016; a 2021 reassessment reduced the parcel's annual tax assignment to approximately $325 from a prior amount near $825. Counsel said the county would likely be unable to recoup approximately $12,000 in outstanding taxes if it pursued auction or further collection measures.
Supervisor Morehouse moved to approve the conveyance with a $30 recording fee; Supervisor Steyer seconded. After brief discussion, the committee voted in favor by voice vote, with one member opposed.
The conveyance transfers the water parcel to the city; counsel said the transfer would not restore the parcel to the tax roll. The committee did not require any additional conditions beyond the recording-fee requirement.
