The Newaygo City Council approved a special land use permit on May 12 allowing All Around Excavating to remove sand, gravel and similar materials from the Resonate Church property at 302 E 68th Street over multiple years, subject to specified permit conditions.
The approval includes three stated contingencies: All Around Excavating must obtain necessary MDOT permit(s) for driveway access; secure a Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Permit and adhere to its requirements; and apply for any required Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) permits and comply with those permit conditions. Councilmembers voted to approve the request after the Planning Commission recommended approval with the listed contingencies. City Manager Jon Schneider displayed site plans included in council packets and reviewed the area proposed for material removal.
The motion was made by Burns and seconded by Walker and carried with unanimous support among members present (Engemann absent). The minutes do not record a public speaker opposed to the request; the approval is contingent on the contractor obtaining the listed state and MDOT permits before operations proceed.
