City Manager Jon Schneider briefed the Newaygo City Planning Commission on May 8 about multiple public-works and development matters.
Schneider displayed photos and said structural repairs and an overlook deck at the Powerhouse building have been completed; "the walkway trail should be open in the next month." He also updated the commission on the Wood Street Water/Sewer Main Project, saying River Street should be open by Memorial Day in a gravel condition and will be paved at the end of the project.
Schneider said J&H Gas Station, with a prospective Jimmy Johns tenant, is interested in purchasing the building at 40 E 82nd Street and would like city sewer and water. Because the building currently lies in Brooks Township, Schneider explained that the first step would be annexation into the city under PA 425 (a conditional land-transfer process), and he outlined the process and timeline for that action.
The meeting also recorded routine procedural actions: the agenda and the April 10, 2025 minutes were approved earlier in the meeting, and the commission adjourned at 7:04 p.m. by motion of Faulkner, seconded by Fedell (motion carried AIF/MC).
