Pineville council moves to condemn multiple dilapidated houses, removes one from list after repairs

City staff described multiple properties as structurally unsound — with missing windows and doors, stripped interiors and failing roofs — and recommended 30-day voluntary demolition windows before the city proceeds. The council voted to accept recommendations on several case files, including 1302 Jenny Street (case 2024-002), 804 Aaron Street (case 2024-019) and 1422 College Drive (case 2024-039).
At an earlier item, the council agreed to remove 307 Stevens Street (case 2024-011) from the condemnation list after staff reported the owner had installed electrical and plumbing repairs and was working with the planning and inspection departments to bring the property into safe condition.
For 720 Sycamore Street (case 2024-027), the owner, Mary Wadsworth, appealed for time to repair her family home and said she had a contractor lined up; council members discussed a state demolition grant that would allow the city to remove a dwelling without placing a lien on the lot, and asked Wadsworth to return in 30 days with a written plan from a contractor so the council could reassess.
Property owners and purchasers who attended several hearings said they were cooperating with inspections. Council motions to accept the city engineer's recommendations carried by voice vote at the meeting.
What happens next: owners were given 30 days in most cases to voluntarily demolish or present a plan for repairs; staff said the city will revisit each property at the next scheduled meeting if owners do not act.
