Dearborn County approves interlocal with Aurora for permanent George Street bridge lighting

Staff member (S3) told commissioners the resolution and the interlocal go "hand in hand" and that the county must pass the resolution before entering the agreement. Presenter (S5) said the installation is permanent for Aurora and compared the proposal to installations in Columbus, Indiana. "This is permanent for Aurora," Presenter (S5) said. She added the city would control color programming and could allow community-funded color changes for short periods.
Commissioners raised questions about whether lights would be lit continuously and whether brightness could affect drivers. Presenter (S5) said the team "worked with Todd and with Kevin Hadwin, who's professional lighter, to make sure that it meets all of the federal specifications for visibility for driving" to avoid visibility hazards. Commissioner (S1) said he checked with local officials and that there are no residents nearby who would be affected by brightness.
Commissioner (S1) moved to adopt Resolution 2026009 and to enter the interlocal agreement; Chair (S2) seconded. The board voted by voice to approve the resolution and then passed the interlocal agreement by voice vote.
