Montclair State trustees approve broad slate of faculty and staff appointments as fall semester opens

The Montclair State University Board of Trustees voted unanimously Sept. 9 to approve a broad set of personnel actions that the Human Capital Committee presented, including tenure, faculty, teaching-track, librarian, managerial and professional-staff appointments.

Shelia Rostiac, reporting for the Human Capital Committee, moved the personnel package, which the board seconded and approved without objection. The motion covered one faculty tenure appointment; 19 faculty appointments; 12 assistant/associate teaching professor appointments; one librarian appointment; five managerial appointments; 10 professional staff appointments; and one leave of absence without pay.

President Jonathan Koppell opened the meeting by noting the start of the semester and what he described as a “record enrollment of 24,000 students,” and thanked staff for their work during orientation and move-in. The personnel approvals were presented in the context of that enrollment and ongoing program growth.

The public minutes list named hires and effective dates (many with an effective date of Aug. 29, 2025), with degree and prior-institution information supplied in the board packet. Examples included academic and administrative hires across arts, sciences, nursing, information management, and student services. The minutes also record a leave of absence without pay for Emily Hodge in Educational Leadership, effective Aug. 29, 2025, through Jan. 16, 2026.

The board approved the motion en bloc. No individual roll-call vote totals by trustee were recorded in the public minutes; the action is described as approved unanimously.

Trustees noted that personnel matters and committee minutes were also reviewed in Closed Session; the board subsequently scheduled a future Closed Session to discuss pending litigation, personnel matters and related issues consistent with N.J.S.A. 10:4-12.b.
