The Montclair State University Board of Trustees approved the university’s FY2026 operating budget, tuition and fees schedule, and meal plan and room rates in public session on July 15, 2025. Trustees reviewed quarterly budget updates earlier in the year and heard presentations from the Audit and Risk Management and Finance committees before the final votes.
At the July meeting, the board voted to approve meal-plan and room-rate changes for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 and adopted the tuition and fees rates for the 2025–26 academic year. The actions were presented by committee chairs and recorded in the minutes as motions that were seconded and approved. The board’s financial actions earlier in the cycle included adoption of the FY2023–24 draft financial statements (subject to GASB No. 75 revisions) and authorization to pursue bond refunding up to $75 million to manage long‑term debt and interest costs.
University officials told trustees that the budget decisions were driven by enrollment, operational needs, and capital requirements. The minutes show the trustees discussed budget implications in committee meetings but record no roll-call tallies in the public minutes for the final FY2026 approval.
