Moonachie council approves $32,530 in Fire Department equipment purchases; grant covers part of cost

The Moonachie Borough Council on Jan. 5 authorized purchases for Fire Department equipment totaling $32,530.
Mayor Dennis Vaccaro told the council the fire company received a grant for approximately $16,000 toward turnout-cleaning equipment but that the two required items together cost roughly $32,000. Acting on that information, the council approved Resolution #25-263 to buy a Continental Girbau washer-extractor from Fowler Equipment Co., Inc. for $16,040 and Resolution #25-264 to buy a Continental SD6-COO heated turnout gear dry cabinet for $16,490; the Borough said it solicited two quotes and Fowler Equipment Co. was the lowest responsible quoter.
Councilmember Bauer moved the purchases and Councilmember Surak seconded; the roll-call vote recorded all ayes. The resolutions instruct municipal staff to proceed with procurement from Fowler Equipment Co. and to record the purchases in the Borough’s accounts.
Models and vendor amounts were listed in the resolutions as read into the record; the council did not specify whether additional grant funding or operating funds will cover the remainder beyond the stated grant amount.
