The Mount Arlington Board of Education on May 13 approved an addendum (051326‑S‑16) determining that student #11702 is ineligible to remain enrolled in the Mount Arlington Public Schools after a residency review and related hearing held April 29, 2026.
The resolution states that Board Policy 5111 (Eligibility of Resident/Nonresident Students) provides no basis for continued enrollment after a move into another district and, by recorded roll call vote, the board determined the student shall be removed from the district 21 days following the date of the Notice of Final Ineligibility unless the parent files a timely appeal to the Commissioner of Education. The minutes state the student is entitled to remain enrolled during the pendency of any appeal. The Board Secretary, with assistance from Board attorneys, was authorized to prepare the Notice of Final Ineligibility.
Why it matters: Residency determinations directly affect students’ school assignments and district tuition obligations and can be appealed to the Commissioner of Education.
Next steps: The Board Secretary and attorneys will prepare the Notice of Final Ineligibility; the parent may appeal to the Commissioner of Education, during which the student may remain enrolled per the board’s resolution.
