Mountainside officials outline pool redevelopment plan, prepare for bond referendum

Mountainside leaders discussed plans to redevelop the municipal pool during the borough work session on Sept. 3, 2024. Recreation Director Frank Masella explained the pool’s proposed design and said the Planning Board has declared the area to be in need of redevelopment. Mayor Paul N. Mirabelli asked staff to provide the pool’s revenues from this past season to inform next steps.
Council members were told an ordinance endorsing the Planning Board’s determination will be required and that a bond ordinance — to be placed before voters as a referendum — will be necessary to fund the project. The council also discussed the need to identify the company that would complete the work and agreed the pool report should be circulated to newer council members for review prior to any ordinance or bond action.
No formal ordinance or bond was introduced at the work session; council members instructed staff to prepare required documents and data for a future public meeting where any ordinance, bond referendum or vendor selection would be considered.
