Mount Arlington board approves personnel slate and advances policy first readings

The Mount Arlington Board of Education approved personnel and curriculum/policy items during its Jan. 21 meeting.
Personnel: the board passed a resolution recognizing January 2026 as School Board Recognition Month and approved chaperones for the Feb. 5 band/choir concert at the schedule B event rate. The board added a substitute custodian and a substitute teacher to district lists (pending required clearances), accepted the resignation of a part‑time aide effective Jan. 18, 2026, and added a volunteer for the 2025–26 school year.
Curriculum and policy: Mrs. Eckert moved, and Mr. Svenningsen seconded, first readings of several policies and regulations for revision or new adoption, including P0142.1 (Nepotism), P1220 (Employment of Chief School Administrator), new sexual harassment policies/regulations, updates to resource and library materials policies and revisions to public-complaint procedures. The board also approved the Statement of Assurance regarding the use of paraprofessional staff for the 2025–26 school year.
Attendance and drills: the minutes report December 2025 staff attendance at 94.7% and student attendance at MAPS 93.3% and Decker 94.5%; fire/emergency drills were conducted with the Mount Arlington Police Department in December.
The personnel slate was moved by Mrs. Sheila Studint, seconded by Mrs. Melissa Eckert, and approved by roll call (7 yes).
