Mount Arlington board adopts $16.49 million 2026-27 budget, approves food-service contract and grant amendments

The Mount Arlington Board of Education adopted the district's 2026-2027 budget, approving total revenues of $16,492,360, including a general fund of $16,077,621 and a debt-service levy of $232,400, during its April 29 meeting.
Robin C. Tedesco, interim school business administrator and board secretary, presented the budget during the required public hearing and described the components of the final adoption. The board approved a tax levy to be raised of $13,549,048 for the 2026-27 school year.
The board also set maximum appropriation levels for professional services used in budget preparation and oversight, listing legal ($25,000), auditing ($36,500), related services ($265,275) and other professional services ($9,000) and authorizing up to 120% of each amount for the coming year. The board established a maximum travel expenditure of $15,410 for 2026-27 and affirmed procedures for prior approval and staff thresholds under N.J.A.C. 6A:23A Subchapter 7.
As part of finance approvals the board awarded a renewal Food Service Management Company (FSMC) base-year contract to Maschio's Food Services, Inc. for 2026-2027. The board approved a management fee of $12,660, payable in ten monthly installments, and recorded a total contract cost of $177,404.63. The contract includes a guaranteed no-cost or breakeven provision under which Maschio's would be responsible for any shortfalls.
The board also approved an amended 2026-27 ESEA Consolidated Grant (Amendment 1) with Title I-A at $65,202 (carryover $27,448); Title II-A at $11,936 (carryover $1,185); Title III at $4,784; Title III Immigrant at $1,421; and Title IV at $10,000 (carryover $10,000). The board authorized purchase of Amplify CKLA for grades K–2 funded by Title IV for the 2025-26 year and approved a 2025-26 McKinney-Vento regular education contract for one student with Parsippany-Troy Hills BOE.
The finance motions (agenda items 042926-B-1 through 042926-B-17) were presented by Vice President Sheila Studint and seconded by board member Edwin Botero. Roll call recorded six yes votes (Edwin Botero, Rachel Byrne, Chris D'Amico, Melissa Eckert, Erika Puskas and Sheila Studint); one member, Karl Svenningsen, was absent.
The board set student lunch prices at $4.00 for both Edith M. Decker School and Mount Arlington Public School for the 2026-2027 school year. The meeting then proceeded to other business and later adjourned.
The budget and related motions take effect as recorded in the board's resolution and will be managed by the business administrator, who was instructed to track professional-service and travel expenditures against the approved maximums.
