Mountainside council adopts routine resolutions, proclamations and appointments in June meeting

At its regular meeting, the Borough Council of Mountainside approved a slate of routine administrative and ceremonial items, including liquor license renewals, small refunds, budget insertions, and proclamations recognizing two residents'centenarians.
Alex introduced Resolution 75-2025 to renew multiple retail and club liquor licenses for the July 1, 2025'June 30, 2026 licensing year after health and fire inspections; the council approved the renewals by roll call. Donna presented Resolution 76-2025 authorizing a $4,000 refund for overpayment at 247-249 New Providence Road; the motion carried. Renee moved Resolution 77-2025 to dedicate tree replacement fees for planting and maintenance, which passed.
The council approved Resolution 82-2025 to insert special revenue items into the 2025 budget under NJSA 40A:4-87, including a Clean Communities grant ($19,569.46) and a Watts Foundation volunteer dinner contribution ($1,896). Don presented Resolution 80-2025 authorizing submission of a Municipal Alliance grant for substance use prevention (GCSUD $10,160; $2,540 cash match; $7,620 in kind); council approved the submission and acknowledged audit and compliance requirements.
The council approved Resolution 79-2025 authorizing several small refunds and Resolution 81-2025 canceling a stale 2023 check (check no. 044193 for $8.25). The bills for June 2025 totaling $253,129.67 were audited and approved for payment when funds are available. The council also authorized seasonal recreation hires recommended by Recreation Director Frank Masella, pending background checks, and appointed Tyler Stockel as a volunteer firefighter.
Chair read proclamations honoring Shobha Sharma (June 17, 2025) and Dorothy "Dot" Matthews (July 6, 2025) on their 100th birthdays; both proclamations were adopted by voice vote. Several councilmembers offered community announcements, including school-year traffic safety reminders and a July 4 fireworks event hosted by the Mountainside PAL.
