Village Fire Department budget amendment and FY2027 budget approved by council

Chief Croft presented the Village Fire Department’s activity report and budget items at the May 19 meeting. Croft reported 16 calls for service in Bunker Hill Village during April, an average response time of 5 minutes and 16 seconds, two new personnel hires, delivery of a rescue boat, and ongoing CPR and AED training that placed the department ahead of last year’s certification numbers.
Council considered and approved Budget Amendment 2026-02 totaling $164,167; $134,167 of the amendment will be funded from the FY2025 surplus and $30,000 from previously donated funds restricted to life-safety equipment. Councilmember Andrew Poor moved to approve the amendment and Councilmember Carl Moerer seconded; the motion carried 5-0.
Chief Croft then presented the FY2027 budget, which creates an Equipment Replacement Fund to manage capital replacements over $20,000 and prioritizes personnel and operational readiness. The FY2027 budget totals $11,035,686; councilmember Eric Thode moved to approve the budget, Councilmember Susan Schwartz seconded, and the motion carried 5-0.
