Finance director reports $9.9M year-to-date sales-tax collections; August down slightly

Clarissa Brown Smith, the city finance director, presented the financial report to the Natchitoches City Council on Sept. 20, saying year-to-date sales-tax collections for the calendar year totaled $9,900,000.
She said August collections were $1,100,000, a 1.84% decline from the same month the previous year (about $22,000), but noted the city remains up 6.7% year-to-date compared with the prior calendar year. Smith provided breakdowns by fiscal-year reporting and by TIF and economic-development districts; several districts — including the hotel-occupancy TIF and EDD C (the I-49/University Parkway area) — showed notable year-to-date increases.
Smith characterized the small monthly dip as "not alarming" while advising continued monitoring to ensure it does not become a trend.
Council thanked staff for the presentation and asked that the district maps and a 'cheat sheet' be distributed to members.
