The Borough of Mountainside approved a series of personnel resolutions and motions at its July 16 meeting, confirming full- and part‑time appointments, seasonal hires for pool operations and summer recreation programs, and volunteer firefighter appointments.
Council approved Resolution 88‑2024 appointing Alanna Moriak as Recreation Assistant, effective July 8, 2024, at an annual salary of $57,000 with a six‑month probationary period. The council also approved part‑time technical appointments: Gary Junkroft as a part‑time Plumbing Inspector at $50 per hour (not to exceed six hours weekly) effective July 15, 2024 (Resolution 89‑2024), and Jerry Eger as Temporary PT Plumbing Sub Code Official at the same rate with a six‑month probationary period (Resolution 96‑2024).
The council confirmed Resolution 91‑2024 appointing Captain Michael Jackson as Deputy OEM Coordinator (replacement for Mayor Mirabelli) effective July 22, 2024, with a term expiration of Dec. 31, 2024 and compensation for additional duties of $2,500.
Under Resolution 93‑2024 the council approved a roster of temporary employees for the 2024 pool season: front‑desk staff, lifeguards, head lifeguards, maintenance personnel and managers with wages noted in the resolution (hourly rates cited in the record range from $14.00 to $17.00 for front‑desk and lifeguard positions; assistant managers and some specialist positions listed higher hourly or per‑season stipends). The swim team coach stipend is listed in the record as $3,312 per season; assistant swim coach stipend listed as $1,242 per season. The council also adopted Resolution 94‑2024 appointing summer recreation staff and playground supervisors with hourly rates shown in the agenda materials.
Motions approved unanimously included raffle permits for the Mountainside Restoration Committee and PTO Mountainside, and authorization to appoint volunteer firefighters Jonluis Fonseca, Curtis Gilford, Sean Prawdzik and Jacob Tomas along with Junior Auxiliary member Anthony Labisi.
The council authorized payment of bills totaling $528,045.95 after audit, subject to fund availability and required signatures (bills & claims resolution). Roll calls on the personnel resolutions and motions recorded Ayes: Dierkes, Matejek, Rinaldo, Wass; Nays: 0.
The roster text in the meeting record lists many individual names and wages; it also shows a duplicated entry pattern for some names (for example, Holly Dorsett appears listed both as Lifeguard and as Head Lifeguard in the roster). The borough indicated salaries for seasonal hires will be set in the borough salary ordinance and that background checks are required for hires where noted.
