On Sept. 26 the New Providence Board of Education approved routine finance items including the September 2024 bill list and accepted donations to advance athletic-field improvements.
Finance Chair Amanda Marano moved to approve Items 1–5 on the finance agenda. The board accepted the Board Secretary and Treasurer reports for August 2024 and approved payment of the September bill list in the amount of $6,062,752.40. The board also ratified a transfer for August 2024 and accepted donations totaling $50,044.69 for the High School and Allen W. Roberts baseball/softball relocation and improvement project, including gifts from New Providence PAL, New Providence Soccer Club, the New Providence Athletic Booster Club and community donations through SchoolFundr.
Mr. Carangelo, who helped lead fundraising efforts, told the board the district had received a $63,000 local Recreation Improvement Grant from the Department of Community Affairs and that an additional $50,000 raised through community fundraising will allow work to proceed more quickly. He said contractors have assured the district work will not interfere with JV soccer and that safety fencing will be installed.
The finance motion passed on a roll-call vote with board members recorded as present and Mr. Walsh absent. Several other routine finance and facilities motions (disposal of outdated technology and other items) and education and personnel agenda items were approved later in the meeting.
