Board approves $5.14 million in bills, capital-reserve maximum and several program and personnel items

The New Providence Board of Education voted on a package of finance, facilities, education, personnel and policy items at its Oct. 17 meeting, approving a bill list of $5,143,858.04 and other routine actions.
Finance chair Amanda Marano moved approval of finance items 1 through 9, which the board carried on a roll-call vote. The approved bill list totaled $5,143,858.04; the board also reported seventy-seven projects in the district's Five-Year Long Range Facility Plan with an estimated total cost of $37,724,577 and identified a remaining 54 projects representing $23,867,368. The district listed a potential state/EDA grant eligibility of $9,546,947 and set a local-share capital-reserve maximum deposit of $14,320,421 for 2024-25.
The board approved a Joint Transportation Agreement with the Morris Union Jointure Commission for the extended school year with per-route annual and aide rates as listed in the agenda, and accepted small donations of $120 and $40 for the Salt Brook upper-playground replacement fund. The board also approved Nonpublic School Security and Technology Program spending plans for The Academy of Our Lady of Peace for 2024-25.
Facilities actions included adoption of the Comprehensive Maintenance Plan for submission to the New Jersey Department of Education and disposal of outdated FM systems, hearing accessories and testing protocols.
Education and personnel items approved included superintendent recommendations on two HIB investigations at the high school, adoption of textbooks and a district communications plan for 2024-25, approval of a high-school trip to Spain and France (April 11-19, 2025), enrollment of Student #11607 at Hunterdon Preparatory School at a tuition cost of $54,717 effective Oct. 8, 2024, multiple coaching and advisor appointments with listed stipend amounts, accepted resignations and approved unpaid-family-leave requests per state and federal law.
Approval votes were unanimous on action-item packages except for the approval of minutes (Sept. 26, 2024), which passed with six yeas and one abstention (Mr. Walsh). The board also adopted a resolution to enter closed session to discuss personnel and student matters related to HIB and reconvened shortly afterward to adjourn the meeting at 8:38 p.m.
