Board hears Anti-Bullying Act self-assessment; district average 72.5 of 78

At the Oct. 17 public hearing, the New Providence Board received the district's 2023-24 Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act self-assessment showing school scores of NPHS 70, NPM 73, Salt Brook 75 and AWR 73, for a district average of 72.5; there were no public comments.
Assistant Superintendent Joseph Uglialoro opened the public hearing Oct. 17 on the district self-assessment for determining grades under the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act and reviewed the process and scores.
Uglialoro explained the self-assessment covers eight core elements required by the statute: program approaches and initiatives; training on Board-approved HIB policy/procedures; staff instruction and training; curriculum/instruction on HIB and related skills; HIB personnel; school-level incident reporting; HIB investigation procedures; and HIB reporting. He said each schoolcould earn a maximum of 78 points and reported the following 2023-24 scores: New Providence High School 70; New Providence Middle School 73; Salt Brook Elementary School 75; Allen W. Roberts Elementary School 73; district average 72.5.
The public portion of the hearing was closed after Uglialoro's report; no members of the public spoke during the comment period. The board later moved to closed session to discuss personnel and student matters related to HIB as permitted under the Open Public Meetings Act.
