Lauderdale County Commission approves school and county budget amendments, committee reassignments and appointments

Lauderdale County commissioners met April 14 at the Ripley Courthouse and approved a slate of budget amendments, committee reassignments and appointments.

The meeting record shows commissioners approved school budget amendments, General Fund (101) changes, Landfill Fund (207) adjustments and Highway Department amendments. Several of those items were adopted by roll call vote; the minutes record the tallies for the roll calls as 20 Ayes, 0 Nays and 4 Absent. The minutes list names for the roll call tallies and also separately list four commissioners as absent for the meeting.

Commissioner Kaye Jordon moved and Commissioner Tommy Sanders seconded approval of the March 2025 minutes; the motion passed on voice vote. On a motion by Commissioner Danny Hartsfield, seconded by Commissioner Brian Maclin, the commission approved the appointment of Michael Tolbert to the Planning Commission following the resignation of Roy Lee Bonds; that motion passed on voice vote.

Commissioner Joe Pursell moved and Commissioner Todd Rankin seconded a package of county commission committee replacements prompted by the resignation of Jason Chrestman; the minutes record new committee assignments including Robert Harris on the Budget Committee and Reed Sanders Jr. on the Landfill and Highway committees.

School budget amendments were brought by Commissioner Rob Harris and seconded by Commissioner Jeff Henson and approved by roll call. Similarly, General Fund amendments were moved by Commissioner Joe Pursell and seconded by Commissioner Tommy Sanders and passed by roll call. Landfill Fund amendments were moved by Commissioner Tommy Sanders and seconded by Commissioner Mark Ballard; Highway Department amendments were moved by Commissioner Gene Edwards and seconded by Commissioner Don Connell. Each of those roll-call items is recorded in the minutes as passing with 20 Ayes, 0 Nays and 4 Absent.

Administrative items approved by voice vote included the Building Permits Report (moved by Commissioner Kaye Jordon, seconded by Commissioner Jeff Henson) and a slate of notaries recommended for appointment (moved by Commissioner Jeff Henson, seconded by Commissioner Tommy Sanders). The meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m. on a motion by Commissioner Joe Pursell, seconded by Commissioner Jeff Henson.
