Centerville council approves holiday event, adopts ordinances and OKs fire radio purchase

At its Sept. 9 meeting the Centerville Town Council unanimously approved the Dec. 6 "Christmas in Centerville" event, adopted Ordinances 2025-06 and 2025-07, approved homecoming fireworks and authorized a $8,865.92 radio purchase for the fire department.
Centerville Town Council took a series of routine actions at its Sept. 9, 2025 regular meeting, unanimously approving event requests, two ordinances, a procurement for the fire department and other administrative items.
Council President Dan Wandersee called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The council first approved the Aug. 12 regular meeting minutes and the Aug. 26 work session minutes, along with claims, adjustments and the allowance report; motions were recorded as passing 5 ayes to 0 nays.
On new business, Council Member Jack Bodiker moved to accept requests for the town's "Christmas in Centerville" hometown-themed event scheduled for Dec. 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the parade at 7 p.m., and to allow park tree decorations and access to water and power at the park. Council Member Joshua Tudor seconded the motion, which passed 5-0.
The council recorded approval of Ordinance 2025-07 (motion by Jack Bodiker, second by Vice President Gary Holbert), with the minutes noting a 5-0 vote. On the Water/Fire agenda the council moved to suspend the third reading and adopt Ordinance 2025-06 (motion by Vice President Gary Holbert, second by Jack Bodiker); that motion also passed 5-0.
The minutes show the council approved a request from cheerleaders to discharge fireworks from the soccer field after the homecoming game (motion by Vice President Gary Holbert, second by Council Member David Cate), and a CYL request to "fill the bat bag" before homecoming (motion by Council Member Joshua Tudor, second by Council Member David Cate). Both motions are recorded as passing unanimously.
The council also recorded a Central Square quote for radios for the fire department with an initial cost of $8,865.92 to be paid from the Fire Equipment Fund; the purchase is noted in the Water/Fire section of the minutes. On wastewater items the minutes record there were no bids on an easement near Gillman's and that a sewer adjustment request for James Webb was not approved.
Clerk-Treasurer Sarah Rice and council members announced a work session and public hearing for adoption of the 2026 budget scheduled for Sept. 30, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the council room. Council Member Gary Holbert moved to close the meeting; Council Member David Cate seconded, and the meeting was adjourned after a recorded 5-0 vote.
