Board reviews proposed meal price increases for 2026–27 school year
Summary
Staff presented a resolution to increase student meal prices for 2026–27 — elementary breakfast to $2.00 and lunch to $3.00; middle/high school lunch to $3.50 — citing higher food, supply and labor costs; free/reduced copays would remain unchanged.

Board members on July 6 heard a staff presentation on proposed school meal price adjustments for the 2026–27 school year that staff said reflect rising food costs, supply‑chain disruptions and labor shortages.
The presenter explained the current elementary breakfast price is $1.75 and lunch $2.50 and proposed raising those to $2.00 and $3.00, respectively. Middle and high school breakfast would move from $1.75 to $2.00 and lunch from $3.00 to $3.50. The presenter emphasized the nutrition services department intends to remain self‑sustaining while maintaining higher‑quality menu items.
The presenter added that students who qualify for free or reduced‑price meals would continue to pay the existing copays: breakfast 30¢ and lunch 40¢.
A board member framed the increases as unfortunate but necessary given cost pressures. The superintendent recommended approval of the pricing structure; the item was presented as an agenda resolution to be considered in the district's next regularly scheduled voting meeting.
No final vote on meal pricing was recorded at the July 6 meeting; staff said more details and formal action would appear on the agenda when the board takes the item up for a formal vote.
