Superintendent updates board on NJQSAC, pre‑K expansion; union honors longtime staff

During audience participation Superintendent Dr. George J. Solter Jr. reviewed the NJQSAC District Improvement Plan (DIP) and said the plan focuses on improving proficiency rates. He said the district is pursuing a pre‑K expansion with plans for full‑day pre‑K and that Saturday morning programs and a number of Title I-funded programs have begun across schools. Dr. Solter also encouraged attendance at an upcoming Parents’ Night and thanked the District Wellness Committee for raising $2,235 for the Hackensack Meridian Breast Cancer Center. He noted student recognition in STEAM, mentioning two students who won first prize for a structural engineering project.
Carol Toomey of the North Bergen Federation of Teachers told the board that the union honored district employees with 25 years of service on Nov. 15; the resolution and minutes list the honorees by name.
These remarks were presented during the audience participation portion of the meeting and were not votes; they were recorded in the minutes and accompany multiple board actions on programs and staffing.
