Board approves Title I‑funded Saturday and after‑school workshops, tutoring and extracurricular assignments

At its Nov. 20 meeting the North Bergen Board of Education approved a suite of after‑school and Saturday programs funded in part by Title I and School Improvement Aid (SIA).
Resolution No. 28 named Josephine Solorzano and Christopher Camizzi as supervisors for eight ELA and Math Saturday workshops to be held twice a month at North Bergen High School from January through April 2025; each supervisor will receive a $1,000 stipend. Resolution No. 29 approved a list of teachers to present the eight workshops at a rate of $75 per hour, with Title I funds listed as the financing source.
The board also approved multiple after‑school program assignments by school (Polk Street, Kennedy, Franklin, McKinley and Lincoln), including technology clubs, tutoring (ELA, math), STEAM, chess, photography and restorative wellness programs. Coaching stipends and extra‑curricular salaries were listed for high‑school athletic assistants and club advisors.
Resolutions cited that teacher assignments for Saturday and after‑school programs will be made based on parent attendance and student enrollment and that Title I funds will be used to finance many of the programs. Motions to approve the program rosters and funding carried by recorded vote.
The board’s actions seek to expand parental engagement and academic support opportunities for K–12 families in the district over the coming semester.
