Rosemount honors state-champion teams and proclaims July Parks and Recreation Month

The Rosemount City Council on July 7 honored the city's state champions and unanimously adopted a proclamation recognizing July as Parks and Recreation Month.

Mayor Jeffrey D. Wiesensel presented proclamations congratulating the Rosemount High School boys baseball team on winning the 2026 Minnesota State High School Baseball Championship and the girls flag football team for their 2026 state title. After the boys team was called forward for a group photo, Coach Chris Swanson thanked the city for supporting youth baseball and praised the players and families: "We have great groups of great families that have raised some really great kids," he said.

Mr. Martin, who introduced both teams to the council, and Councilmember Esler called attention to the growth of girls athletics. Coach Erdman, speaking after the girls team was recognized, noted the program's on-field achievements, saying the varsity program has posted a 35-1 record over recent seasons, has won two state titles and was the first team from Minnesota to reach the NFL Flag national Sweet 16.

The council then considered a staff-led proclamation designating July as Parks and Recreation Month. Parks staff described July as the department's busiest month and highlighted volunteer-led events such as Leprechaun Days, youth sports tournaments, camps, and senior programming. The council moved and approved the proclamation by voice and roll call, recorded as a unanimous 5-0 vote.

The proclamations and the Parks and Recreation Month resolution are ceremonial but underscore the council's emphasis on youth sports, volunteer contributions and summer programming. The council also used the ceremonial time to invite the community to upcoming Leprechaun Days events.

The council adjourned after brief announcements about community events.
